On November 28, 2023, the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law (KIBHR) and the Legal Policy Research Center (LPRC) will organize a conference on “Eradicating Discriminatory Practices in Kazakhstan.”
At the conference, experts will present law draft “On the Council for Ensuring Equality and Protection against Discrimination” and “On Amendments to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Ensuring Equality and Protection against Discrimination.”
The preparation of these documents aims to define the concept of “discrimination” in the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, aligning it with international instruments combating discrimination, and defining a specialized (empowered) body and procedures to effectively use legal means for protection against discrimination.
Additionally, experts from the Legal Policy Research Center will present a series of recommendations to improve labor, administrative, and criminal laws related to holding individuals accountable for discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment, stalking of women, as well as sexist remarks towards women. These and other issues concerning the complexity of proving such incidents will be discussed during the conference sessions.
The conference will take place on November 28, 2023, from 10:00 to 17:00 in a hybrid format via ZOOM.
This conference is supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) and the Regional Program Initiative “Spotlight on Alliances for Change: Eliminating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Practices in Central Asia” with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
