This review has been prepared within the framework of the project “Implementation of a systematic, structured and effective policy of improving business integrity and developing corporate governance in Kazakhstan in accordance with OECD standards”, implemented by the Chamber of Legal Consultants “Kazakhstan Bar Association” in cooperation with the Legal Policy Research Center (LPRC) with the support of the Siemens Integrity Initiative. The review presents an assessment of changes in the field of anti-corruption reforms in the private sector of the economy of Kazakhstan over the past year. Thanks to the theoretical and practical information presented in the review, it can become an effective tool for improving anti-corruption policy, legislation and practice. Our main goal is not to criticize the existing anti-corruption reforms, but to offer ideas for improving them, increasing their effectiveness and ensuring progress.

The review consists of several sections: the first section describes the degree and nature of the involvement of the private sector in corruption schemes, transactions and practices.

The second section contains an analysis of high corruption risk zones for quasi-public sector enterprises, analyzes the main and specific characteristics of anti-corruption compliance, the mandatory implementation of which is provided for by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Combating Corruption”.

The review concludes with general and detailed recommendations, the application of which is aimed at changing measures to prevent corruption in three sectors at once – public, quasi-public and private, as well as changing the behavior of employees of organizations and enterprises, taking into account the importance of timely notification of conflicts of interest and violations in the workplace.   You can read the full text of the review at this link
